2018 Vintage Open Primer

February 22nd – March 26

Thursdays

7PM – Live Open Workout Announcement – Streamed Live via YouTube & CrossFit Games website. Contact your team captain for watch party information.
7PM – Open Workout Submission Starts

Fridays

Morning/Daytime – Regular Class schedule
The 5:30AM and 12:00PM CrossFit class will perform the Open WOD. If you can’t make it for Friday Night Lights, you are welcome to perform the Open WOD with the class but you must arrange for a judge to be present. The coach’s responsibility is to supervise the class and they won’t be able to score your workout unless you wait after the class completes the workout.

Afternoon QuickFit moved to 4:30PM

5:00PM – Vintage Open for warmups with target start time of 5:30PM
8:00PM – 10:00PM – Vintage Open Afterparty

Comp Class will focus on efficiency / strategy to attack the week’s Open workout. Judges will be available for retests if needed.

Monday

Regular Class Schedule
Open Workouts can be performed any time. You are responsible for coordinating with a judge to come and score your workout. Classes have priority for workout space so please be respectful if you’re doing your Open WOD on Monday evening.
7PM – Open Score Submission Deadline

Score Submissions

After you complete the Open WOD, your judge will give you a slip of paper with your score, tie-break time, and judge’s name. You are responsible for submitting this information to the CrossFit Games website or through the CrossFit Games app. You’ll enter your workout reps or time, judges name, location performed, and whether you performed the Rx or scaled option. You must submit your score to the CrossFit Games website to earn a participation point for the Vintage Open. The score submission system shuts down at 7PM on Monday. Dennis will validate your score once it’s submitted. After it’s validated your score will appear on the global leaderboard.

Judging

Every athlete competing in the Open needs a registered judge to count reps, ensure range of motion standards are met, and record your final score. Everyone is encouraged to take the Online Judges Course at https://oc.crossfit.com ($10). Having lots of judges available ensures the Friday Night Events run smoothly and you’ll earn Judging points for your Vintage Open team! If you don’t have a CF-L1, you must take the 2018 Judges Course, even if you took the course in past years.

Friday Night Lights

On Friday nights the energy rises as we take on the Open workout competition style: The gym will be split into lanes and we’ll have athletes perform the workout in heats. We’ll put heat/lane sign-ups on the board on Friday after the noon class. Pick your workout time and lane when you arrive on Friday. We’ll post a suggested warm-up and stretch. It’s the athlete’s responsibility to warm-up and be ready on time for their heat. Beginners, please reach out to a coach or your team captain if you have questions about how to warm-up.

Vintage members who aren’t competing in the Open are welcome to join the fun and do the workout on Friday evenings. Your friends from other boxes can drop in too!

There will be a judges sign up on the board next to the heats. Please take turns judging so other judges have time to rest/recover/eat/drink between heats!

You’re encouraged to bring friends and family to cheer for you on Fridays. The Open is an opportunity to showcase the hard work you put in at the gym throughout the year. Encourage your teammates and the rest of the Vintage community!

As the heats start wrapping up, we’ll transition into the afterparty. Each week one of the Vintage Open teams sponsors the afterparty by selecting the theme, providing food, drinks, and entertainment. Team captains will help lead these efforts. Everyone is welcome to hang out and have fun!

Vintage Open Scoring

After five weeks we’ll name the 2018 Vintage Open champions. Each week participants earn points for their teams:

Participation: 1 point per athlete for completing the WOD and submitting a score on the Games website
Performance: 3 points for first place, 2 points for second place, 1 point for third, fourth, and fifth place, for each gender
Rx 5 Weeks: 1 extra point after Week 5 for completing (and submitting scores) for all five weeks as Rx
WOD Abroad: 1 point per athlete who completes the WOD at a box outside of Houston

Spotlight Event: 4 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th. The spotlight event will vary each week with details released on Friday.
Friends and Family: Total number of human friends & family brought to Friday Night Lights by your team. – 4 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th
# of Theme/Team Gear Worn: Total number worn at Friday Night Lights by your team. – 4 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th
Social Media Posts (Yes/No): Total number of team members who posted about the Open WOD on social media – 4 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th
Judging: Total number of workouts judged by your team members Thursday-Monday. – 12 points for 1st, 9 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd, 3 point for 4th (***Alumni judging counts***)
